Check out this super cute clipart from KPM Doodles. Her artwork is adorable. She has added some very cute hearts for Valentine's Day to her Etsy shop.

My kindergarten students enjoy working with pom poms from the craft department of various stores. We have a tub of these on the shelf and the kids play with them during centers. (They pretend the pom poms are money and they especially like the sparkles.) We also use them during math lessons. They are great for sorting since they come in all different sizes and colors. The pom poms make great counters as well. The pom poms are much quieter to use than teddy bear counters or linking cubes. :)
Here is a fun activity we completed for our ELA lessons. We have been learning about Fairy Tales and Nursery Rhymes. Each child was given a brown lunch sack and a page of characters from The Three Little Pigs. We used die-cut squares and triangles to make the brick house on the lunch sack. The kids used construction paper scraps to add details to their houses. The boys and girls loved taking these home and retelling the story of the three little pigs to their families.

After reading several different versions of The Gingerbread Man, we created this Tree Map of Gingerbread Kids.
With the help of the cafeteria staff, we were able to bake a real gingerbread man. We used two boxes of the mix and covered him with raisins. (I reduced the amount of water called for on the box so the batter was thicker and I could form the gingerbread shape.) Even with the cafeteria staff promising to watch the oven for us, our gingerbread man managed to escape and run away.
There was only one thing we could do. So, we went on a gingerbread hunt around the elementary building looking for our gingerbread man. Can you guess where we found him? We found him hiding in our classroom!
What a yummy snack!

We have been learning about story elements with our ELA lessons. Here is an activity we did to help learn about characters. We created this Tree Map with the characters from Goldilocks and the Three Bears after reading a few different versions of the story together. The children know that characters are people or animals (that act like people) in a story.

We created this Circle Map during our Social Studies unit on families. We identified several things that families do together. Here are some of the things we listed. Families: travel together, are happy together, go to church together, look like each other, eat together, and love each other.

Hello and welcome. We are new to blogging and just getting started. My sister and I hope to share classroom happenings on Kinder Friendly. There are so many wonderful teaching blogs that share so many great classroom ideas. We want to be able to return the kindness and generosity. We hope you will visit Kinder Friendly often to find out what is happening in kindergarten.
